Built for This Cocktail
Girl Dad Bourbon's 101-proof backbone and 7-year oak character shine through the sweetness. The caramel and vanilla notes complement the demerara perfectly, while the higher proof ensures the bourbon doesn't get lost behind the sugar and bitters. This is a cocktail where the bourbon is the star.
Pro Tips
Use a large, clear ice cube — it melts slower and keeps dilution in check.
Rich demerara syrup (2:1 sugar to water) adds body without making it watery. Regular simple syrup works too, but demerara gives a deeper molasses note.
Don't skip the orange peel express — that essential oil on top makes the aroma experience.
Stir, don't shake. You want silky and cold, not frothy and cloudy.
If you like it smokier, try a quick smoke with applewood chips before pouring.
